Sixteen-year-old Stephanie flees the bed of her dying mother to avoid being sent across the country to a girls’ home, as arranged by her mother and a caregiver and to which she has been given no part. If she hesitates too long and her mother dies, she’ll be packed away by social workers, losing a chance at adventure and uncertainty for the droll gray routine of an orphanage.

Stephanie knows she can’t allow that to happen. As her mother’s life ebbs away, she stealthily slips out of a bedroom window.

But there is no girls’ home – never was – only a pack of hired thugs closing in to abduct and brutally eliminate her.
